Case 5-3 - Turnabout Academy

We sort out, past a series of Prof. Means' red herrings, that he was the one responsible for taking bribes and that Prof. Courte was completely innocent. She approached him and confronted him about the bribes at length, and so he killed her, taking care to frame Juniper for the dastardly deed.

Turns out that Themis Legal Academy [which school? ah yes, Themis Legal Academy] hands out identical journals to students who graduate at the top of their class. Both Prof. Courte and Prof. Means, then, owned the same type of journal/planner with the same dagger watermark. When we found the piece of paper with Hugh's name and the amount of his family's bribe, it was from Prof. Means's book.

Juniper is declared Not Guilty, and in honor of Prof. Courte, the school festival is allowed to continue one extra day. Hugh wins the mock trial and proceeds to...not confess his love, but humbly request that the trio stay BFFs. If it hadn't come up earlier, he was going to use that opportunity to confess that he wasn't a genius and was in fact, 25 years old. Whew.

This was a fun case! I enjoyed it a lot, despite the slow pacing of my writeups. I wish I could have gotten to know Prof. Courte better, but I think the trio will carry on her mantle nicely, and perhaps shed a bit of light on this 'dark age of the law'. Prosecutor Blackquill encouraged them to pursue truth at the end there too, and Athena was very surprised... I must know more about both of them.

The Cosmic Turnabout is next! Tune in tomorrow!
