December used to drag forever as a kid waiting for Christmas.

However as an adult October through December combined feel like they shoot by in less time than just December felt like as a kid.

My daughter will be three between now and Christmas, and I was just thinking about this the other day. Maaaaan its crazy how December used to drag as a kid. Now it's like "wasn't it just August?" But yeah my wife wanted to put the tree up early but I was against it because having it up for a month for an adult isn't a big deal but for a little kid its like mocking them for 3 years. >_>

But yeah, on topicish, having a kid definitely makes me look forward to Christmas a lot more. Not that I ever reached the point of hating it, but for quite a while it just felt like "Oh hey cool I get some time off of work" and presents are nice but I buy anything I really want and other than my wife its almost all gift cards buying for and receiving from these days. It's nice but its not exciting. There is definitely a certain hollowness now as traditions that lived through my childhood have died out as older relatives died, no longer at the same old location, other relatives not showing up because they've moved off and have other extended family now as well, etc. This year probably just home with the wife and kid, which I do kinda wish my daughter could have similar experiences to me with bigger family, even if not at my grandparents' house with them alive, but this isn't the year for it.
