I don't think there was a single story thread dropped either, which was incredibly refreshing in the genre notorious for "author forgot." Besides the tightness of the plot, I liked how the villain didn't just sit around waiting for the protagonists to kill them, and actually went all out with deceit and trickery to try and vouchsafe their future. My only complaint is I thought Tora's background should have been played out throughout the manga rather than ~~all at once near the end~~; IMO it stands out for the wrong reason and lacked weight, especially when stood against so many other tear-jerking scenes.
