There's no actual benefit to playing higher, no.

Here's what I recommend, in this order:

NEVER reset your multiplier to get someone back in who is overheated.

You don't always need to field 6 characters. Most battles can be won with just 4.

Always read ahead for what type of enemies you will be encountering, and try to go for the bonus objective every time. If you can't because a particular character is overheated, come back and replay it later.

Level up the chip multiplier to MAX. Will have to level up Meta Sytem alongside it as you go.

Level up the score multiplier to MAX (you will be able to do both by the end of stage one if you invest)

Unlock and equip every passive ability for every character.

Unlock the Hyper Condensor ability for every character that has one, and then max out the ability that coordinates with their particular hyper condensor. (IE if the Hyper Condensor adds a second turret for the turret ability max out turret for that character)

Invest into demolisher blade and leap attack (better for movement than actually moving) for 1st gens, turrets for 2nd gens, Railgun for 3rd gens, and interceptors and multi missiles for 4th gens.

After beating the first level of stage 2, you unlock the ability to just straight up put points into stats. Only thing to worry about here is giving every character one level into Neurolink, which will allow them to go 3 battles instead of 2 before overheating. It takes, like, 19 more levels before they can go 4 battles, not worth the investment.

Invest into 1 EMP based ability for every character that has one.

After that, whatever you want to mess around with. Sounds like a LOT, but it really isn't as long as you prioritize the chip multiplier FIRST. You want the score multiplier up because it gets you more mystery points, and once you've unlocked ever mystery file mystery points will get converted into more chips.
