Man, we rammed through that dungeon. I basically just spammed quick nock when a giant group of them were there, and heavy shot (plus OGCDs) and straight shot otherwise. Boss stayed locked on the tank and we mashed him fast. Everyone was gone like, instantly though, and I never saw the commendation screen either. The loot part was a little tricky for me too. I ended up getting into the menu, and clicked need for 2 of the things (and got them), and ended up with 2 other things even though I didn't press anything.

A few things, in no particular order:

Archer (and later Bard) is heavily focused around its damage over time abilities. On boss fights you should get in the habit of opening with Venomous Bite (and later, Windbite) and keeping those effects on the boss the entire time. There's some complicated math for trash fights on when you should apply dots and when it's not worth it, but I think those don't come into play until you actually unlock Bard.

Most people doing these early dungeons have done them a million times and will be skipping the mid- and end-dungeon cutscenes. Don't take it personally. Most people will be kind enough to let you watch the cutscenes your first time through. A simple "I'm new" or "first time" in chat will get you a lot of understanding and compassion from most of the playerbase.

Regarding loot, on pretty much anything the game lets you roll Need on you should roll Need. Otherwise it's either gear your current class can't use or occasionally crafting items (I'm actually not sure about this, I know the ARR rework changed a lot about how levelling dungeon chests work but I never bothered to investigate it thoroughly because I didn't have any combat classes below 50 when the rework hit). If everyone else has chosen Pass on a piece of loot and you haven't rolled when the timer runs out you will get that loot automatically.
