There is a throw-away line in Vector about him being an early experiment, and things not going well, but I am trying to recall where I've seen evidence to him basically being an intelligent man who had seen everyone else as an imbecile even before the experiments began, so him clowning around is actually him being a massive troll to make fun of the world's many idiots . . . before killing them.
