Pokemon and Gargoyles went back and forth in one of the most exciting matches in contest history (certainly in the first round), with Pokemon getting a late rally to come out on top. Recess kept MLP at bay, asserting its status as a solid midcarder, but it'll have its work cut out for it in round two against Looney Tunes, which smashed Moral Orel in an impressive rout.
