Have you tried asking your doctor for muscle spasm medication?

Muscle relaxers actually seem to help more than most over-the-counter medicine since a lot of the problem about sciatica is the muscles get so tight they agitate that nerve. That's what PT is all about, they help stretch out those muscles and get your body used to moving properly again.

They talked to me about getting over that hump of moving in certain ways and the way they explained it was basically your body starts learning that certain movements cause pain and it develops a heightened sensitivity to those movements. I think one of the biggest myths about physical therapy is how painful it is. By the time you need physical therapy, you're already in excruciating pain most of the time, so working through it isn't any different than living with it. Then when you quickly start seeing improvement, it motivates you to keep going.
