Whenever I get tagged in a story about Sweden I post a long fact based reply but it is mostly ignored so I dont feel like doing that anymore. Gonna do it one more time though.
My personal opinion is that the Police, SPO (Security Police) and the Military should do a joint op and exterminate the known rodents but that would require massive law changes first.
I wish my countrymen on this board would be better at differentiating between opinions and facts.
The Police are doing plenty. Our prisons got more inmates than ever before in modern times (many are gang members) and they serve longer sentences than before. This is because of different law changes over the past couple years. We need to build more prisons as a result.
Criminals are also having money and property impounded these days in a way not done before. Customs are also seizing more drugs and weapons at the border due to new routines.
A major reason why the criminal gangs in less well-off-neighbourhoods are getting more aggressive now is because the police are cracking down harder.
You can report crimes anonymously in Sweden. But you cannot testify anonymously in court. This is not due to defense attorney lobbying, it is since we have certain rights. You have a right to know what you are accused of and by who during a criminal trial in a court.
The Council of Law, a politically neutral Authority of former and present High Court Justices, which reviews proposed laws from Riksdagen in a Constitutional light are critical of anymous witnesses since it can be easily abused to lock away innocents since it prevents an accused from forming a fair defense. If implemented it is difficult to just limit it to trials against gang members.
And there are great witness protection programmes but they require you to move and change your name, which seems to be normal procedure in other Western countries.
I think it is funny you say build more prisons. Here in California we are closing prisons and letting violent criminals back out on the street.
