I'm sure there's a way to watch just the Driving School episode of DBZ later if you really want to. And yeah, Death Note doesn't really present its protagonist as a good guy. The things he does are mostly understandable (he's well-developed) and you can see the justifications...but the story certainly treats him as the villain.
