#4 Mathilda May

French actress who has over 50 credits to her name but is remembered but for a single role---space vampire. I'm not saying she's what makes Lifeforce a must-see; she's just one more component that takes the move from extreme to whatever level is as high as director Tobe Hooper was at the time.

That's right, Lifeforce is brought upon this world by the man who gave us The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. If Hooper's name wasn't on the credits, nobody would connect him to this cocaine-fueled fever dream of space exploration and apocalyptic calamity wrapped up in explosions that Cannon Films became known for. It's the Death Wish 3 of 80's horror as the movie skirts subtlety by punching the viewer in the face with as many sights and sounds as possible.

The cherry on top is Mathilda May. It's easy to guess what role she plays in the story even without looking at a single still image or poster art. There's no forgetting May's performance and I'm not talking about the acting which is fine. It's her casual stroll through a military base that took me by surprise. Looking back, it isn't a surprise. After all, everything in this movie is dialed up so high that the members of Spinal Tap would blush. Of course, nudity would be one of those components that would also be elevated and I'm not talking about the space sex. Lastly, I would place May's body reveal as one of the top three of the 1980's. That's how much of a recommendation I would give it.

I forgot to put down a selected horror filmography for Gemma Arterton, but I think it's easy to figure out that Byzantium is all for the time being. I also haven't been consistent in any of these posts in the formatting.

Selected Horror Filmography:
Lifeforce.
