Dunno if you're arguing against me,but this helps me. Because I'm not denying abusers exist. Im arguing that all spankings aren't abuse. Im just arguing against those saying you should literally never spank a child.
"should" is, for the most part, not even a part of the conversation. at least not the way I approach it.

"spanking" and "physical abuse" have been linked to the same outcomes pertaining to mental health (and other metrics -- I'll link at the end of my post), suggesting that they are not distinct behaviours. part of the problem is that people have preconceived notions about what constitutes "abuse", and those notions pretty explicitly exclude "spanking" from the definition.

I don't approach it from an angle of what people "should" or "shouldn't" do, but to describe the way things are: objectively speaking, spanking is abusive. parents who spank their kids are being physically abusive.

(notice that I didn't moralize it here -- I didn't say anything was "good" or "bad." "abusive" is a clear, objective description of many things that some parents do. spanking is one of those things.)
