She died of cardiac arrest with a secondary cause being severely anemicas her parents, 37 y/o Katie Horton and 38 y/o Joey Yozviak were charged with her murder Special Agent Ryan Hilton said Kaitlyn had one of the most severe lice infestation that they ever seen and that it lasted for at least THREE YEARS He believed the repeated bites of the lice sucking her blood lowered her blood iron levels that caused the anemia and triggered the cardiac attack Judge Brenda Trammell agreed that there was enough evidence of second degree murder against the parents to go to a grand jury as well as second degree child cruelty In the initial investigation, the mother said Kaitlyn had NOT BATHED within the last week and a half before she died as agents went to the home and found it filthy and in disrepair with vermin covering the mattress and stuffed animals and other furniture dirty Neighbors said they hadn't seen Kaitlyn playing around for the last month and a half before her death as Family and child services show their 2 other sons were removed It also showed in 2008 when Kaitlyn was born when DFCS opened up a case when the parents REFUSEDto give her up for adoption after initially wanting to when she was born In 2018 Kaitlyn was briefly placed with her aunt before being returned to her parents 6 days later and the agency did not hear from them again until her death.
