FL is such a weird state I don't understand why so many people want to live there Florida doesn't have income tax, so retirees with social security and 401K plans can get all of their money tax-free each month. It also has no inheritance or estate tax so when you die you can pass your money onto your children without losing a huge chunk of it. The state is basically designed to attract retirees. Conversely, California has one of the highest sales taxes in the country and they tax retirement funds and pensions though not social security.
