That mission was an absolute work of art. In a game where you mostly rely on stealth it's a huge shift. You're thrust into an unrelenting assault on you and your partner, with a series of 14 tanks, multiple infantry men, and a chopper. It's unexpected, you're likely unprepared (unless following a guide), and unlike most missions you can't go back to Mother Base to restrategize and are forced to complete the mission to continue.

It was grueling and difficult. It took me multiple hours to finally get through it because some of the tanks camp far away from you and snipe you with a blast that kills in one hit if direct. The chaos, the bloodshed, the soundtrack, all of it really make you feel like you're in a war. The extreme difficulty of the mission makes surviving it that much more cathartic.

I've never been so annoyed and frustrated with a game, yet so appreciative of the design at the same time. The cutscenes also add to the heavy emotion and catharsis you feel when you finally beat it. It's MGS, so you can easily read this level as meta-commentary on war and battle. Truly a work of art and a fantastic way to close out the series.

I know a lot of people hated this mission, and the story of MGS has always been bonkers (I like it though, despite whatever flaws), but if you've played it, what did you think?
