People on the left keep saying this like its a thing. At least in America, republicans and the mainstream right haven't really changed in the past few decades. Its the left that has quite obviously drifted waaaaay further to the left hence the large scale protests happening across America demanding the police be defunded, toppling and vandalizing statues, burning down businesses and federal buildings, etc. I think it's pretty clear which side of the aisle has become more extreme. Of course some fringe right groups started emerging in response but these movements are MUCH smaller and generally way less vocal
