Same damn thing happened that occurred with my first poll... after I watch the movie, I come back to find another movie took the lead.

what did you think of Alien?

Sorry, I previously said last night I was starting it in 15 minutes. Started it, and a few things came up - had to put it off until today, but I just finished it.

(Spoilers ahead for Alien, in case anyone else cares to hear my thoughts...)

Very good movie. With this being such a well-known and often-referenced movie, there were certain things I knew going into it, such as what the Xenomorph would look like, that it did not appear until fairly deep into the plot, and the chest-popping scene.

But aside from that, a fair amount of details were surprises to me. I never knew how the alien would get inside Kane. The fact that something that hatched would suction itself to his face and stay there for a good amount of time was interesting, and I liked how they had the acid-blood (whatever it was) create a reason to force them to keep it in place.

Two things that really jumped out at me were the camera angles that were used and the long stretches of silence. Both were used to strong effect.

Also, two things about the ending. First... the size of the self-destruct explosion got a laugh outta me. Nothing bad about it, but they apparently felt that if they needed to destroy the ship, an atomic bomb level explosion would be needed. Second... they fooled me on when the Xenomorph would be killed. I thought for a moment once Ripley was in the escape ship that shed killed the alien in the self-destruction, and that it was a bit of an anticlimactic ending. Furthermore, since we saw the alien stare at Jones (the cat) while it is inside the cage at the end, I thought the cat might somehow be involved with some weird ending. The fact that the alien stowed away surprised me.

But yeah, very good movie. Ill absolutely watch Aliens at some point.
