Yeah I watched the first few episodes, and some friends recommended I move along to parts 2 and 3. I tried watching those, too, but I gutted they just seem too silly for me. I like over-the-top anime, but the characters and their designs dont seem interesting.

It's definitely not a series that's for everyone. But you could try part 4 if you want to give it another shot. The character designs are more complex, and the art style and animation are a lot smoother and cleaner.
