It really isn't that bad when you figure how long and how many hours you use it.

I think we paid somewhere around $2k for our bed (amish made) and something like $1500 for the mattress (Serta Hybrid mattress). The bed itself will likely last us the rest of our lives (going on 12 years now) and the mattress will probably last 8-10 years or so (just got a new one last month - other mattress we bought with the bed but it was long overdue to be replaced).

$3.5k for 8 hours a day, 365 days a year, about 10 years we figure about $1 per day or 12.5 cents per hour of use. (Really, it is much cheaper now because the bed is already paid off and will probably last another 20+ years)
