| Pepys Monster 07/19/20 3:27:57 PM #42: | John Laurens was an abolitionist during the American Revolution. It's sad that it wasn't abolished in 1776. But when you think about it, we needed the American Civil War to abolish slavery. It wasn't going to end easily. Perhaps Washington could have put his foot down and accomplished it.
