I can't imagine any superintendent would want to risk it. One teacher dies of covid and their career dies with them. Pressure from the parents could cause school board members to crack though.

I think we needed a massive federal investment in schools a few months ago, to retrofit them to at least be able to park kids for the fall, but it's way too late now.
The problem is that schools are designed to pack as many children as possible into a classroom. But we currently need them to do the exact opposite.

So the thing is this problem like unemployment/ reopening should have been solved like in every other country. With a reasoned, scientific shutdown and contact tracing to isolate and eliminate infections.

There really is no good way to have school in this environment. At best we can have distance learning but thats not a great substitute. Particularly in poor or rural areas without solid internet.
