It was 16 bit, but if anything I could easily say it had Genesis sensibilities. It wasn't a metroidvania, but it did have perm unlocks you could pick up like Megaman X style.

Something weird compared to modern platformers is your character was relatively large compared to the screen. I mean, think about Hollow Knight or Metroid Fusion/Zero Mission and the portion of the screen your character takes up. Now think about games like Vectorman, X-calibur 2097, Streets of Rage (or most beat'em ups), Comix Zone, many of the Xmen games... particularly Wolverine: Adamantium Rage.

Next up was the level design. I barely remember what happened in level 1 aside from beating things up and getting to the end. but level 2 was cool, you had to get down some sort of hollowed out energy core that will vaporize you if you make the attempt. So you gotta cut off the power. The first junction box available is at the top of a hotel, so you go up the elevator and get stuck - so you break the door and climb out, you discover you can't reach the junction box and now the elevator is jammed 'cuz you broke the door - so you go down through some side grates and climb up the other side of the tower to get to the other side of the elevator to hit the junction box, but now you can't return the way you came... where go? Well, down INTO your previously broken elevator through its ceiling hatch from above... you break it loose, it freefalls for a while and then crashes... ... ... back where you initially started the tower. A nice little cyclical scenario.

level 3 was some sort of race, i can't remember; level 4 was also a race but this one was crazy since it was like Turbo Tunnel in mode 7 through the desert on a hover jet ski and it was hard because the person you are racing can dynamically change the track... if they make it to the short path first they'll cut it off so you have to take the long path, and such

...and basically, in my head it was really awesome
