Theyre all just stupidly stubborn and difficult and childish as hell for the entire. book. Worse than that is that its never even really explained well or told in such a way that it makes sense. Like it really pretty much boils down to mat is mat / nynaeve had to deal with mat growing up and he was a trouble maker and lay about / elayne is haughty all of it was dumb and even if that nonsensical tension was necessary for padding out everything in ebou dar jordan could have at least tried to make it reasonable and not just three people being idiots.
