After finishing Heavy Rain, I have an itch to move onto a game with interesting and involved gameplay. But instead of that, I'm just gonna move onto the next game on the list:

Pokmon Heartgold
Previous Experience with Pokmon: Played most generations, played the original Gold, never tried Heartgold
My Expectations for Pokmon Heartgold: A Pokemon game like any other.

I still post on GameFAQs, so it wouldn't take Norman Jayden to deduce that I played Pokmon growing up. In fact, I think Pokmon Yellow was the second game I ever owned myself, after the Game Boy Color port of Donkey Kong Country. I have fond memories of hunting down a copy of Blue whose battery save still worked as a schoolboy, and of battling with my friends on Ruby when one of us finally acquired a link cable. I've played every game in the first four generations multiple times over and completed Pokmon Moon a year or two back. People say that one is the worst, but I really couldn't tell you why.

There came a point when Pokmon lost its magic for me. I particularly remember playing through Diamond with Infernape, Gyarados, and Luxray, and destroying just about everything with the same two moves on each. I couldn't help but notice, after that, how the combat was shallow and repetitive and the difficulty too low to really be engaging.

But if it isn't magical anymore, that isn't to say Pokmon is unbearable to me. That playthrough of Diamond was not my last willing experience with Pokmon. I find it's a nice series to unwind with when I don't want to strain my mind much. My twenty-fifth birthday is ten days away, and the apparent milestone has made me feel nostalgic - and renewed interest in Pokmon has been a part of that. I've snuck in some time with Emerald, and some with Heartgold, since I started this project, and I'm looking forward to diving into the game in earnest.
