Marcus is a slight step down from Sigurd, or even the likes of Seth, Titania, and FE10 Haar, but he's definitely the most useful character in FE10. He destroys absolutely everything for a long time after he joins, and the only real difficulty he'll ever come across is some trouble doubling later on with his low speed growth. I usually like the Jeigan-style characters in terms of personality and while Marcus is one of the less interesting ones he's still no exception.

Nino just isn't worth it. The amount of slow paced EXP feeding that it takes her to catch up with someone like Pent, for example, is hard to overstate - not to mention that the reward for getting her there is a sage with E staves. Once she finally is trained up, you only have a couple maps left to even make use of her! I do think her characterization is solid, with some touching moments based around her and a good dynamic with the more cynical Jaffar.

Soren is actually really good in Path of Radiance. After a slow start he becomes a speedy high magic Sage who can make great use of Physic staves for extra utility. PoR has strong character writing in general and Soren is pretty interesting with a good relationship with Ike and a personal story that relates to the overall themes of the game.

Hilda is solid with a strong stat spread, reasonably good personal skill, and axe proficiency to help her access some of the important classes. Her personality relies a bit too heavily on a single shtick for me to really like her.
