I'd probably have one as a pet. I haven't really watched the anime, are dogs and cats still a thing in the poke world? Cause I'd still want a dog...or would it have to be like, a pokemon dog?

you'd have to get something like a growlithe or yamper if you're a dog person, or a meowth or skitty if you're a cat person.

but "pet" pokemon aren't exclusive to pet-animal pokemon, in the anime ash's mom has a pet mr. mime which is somewhat humanoid.
the more intelligent ones can also help with various things around the home, like how the earlier mentioned mr. mime helps with cooking.
