So after I killed the launchers I got into a rhythm where I'd get in a round of attacks on the cannon, it would charge for Wave Cannon, I'd Hide, Wave Cannon would whiff, and I'd come back out to repeat. Everything was fine until I got a point where the cannon would flash and "Ineffective" would pop up after every attack I did. Turns out the cannon's self-destruct is coded as a physical attack, and because I'm playing the SNES version the bug with Hide still exists and makes it so the cannon couldn't actually use its "you depleted my HP, time to blow myself up" script. I figured out I could just get hit by a Wave Cannon, hit it once, and it would die.
