Didn't play too long today. I toured the new Normandy to familiarize myself with the layout (it's significantly different from the original I would say) and then talked to my crew members. Jacob and Miranda didn't have much to add, but I got to know some minor characters in EDI and the ship's cook.

When Shepard arrived on Omega the asteroid-borne colony where Mordin was supposed to be, a greeter insisted that she go see an Asari named Aria, who is supposed to be the big cheese of the area. Not wanting to make enemies, Shepard obliged, but Aria didn't seem to want anything in particular from her, and (while insisting that information was power and she didn't give it away lightly) she instead filled Shepard in on the locations of Mordin and another potential squad mate called Archangel. I decided to recruit Archangel first because I remembered that he's Garrus.

Garrus' recruitment mission really just involves hunkering down in a small area holding off several waves of enemy mercenaries, who had all become irate enough at the actions of his Archangel persona to gang up and try to kill him. The mission gets a bit boring by the end due to only really involving combat, which creates a certain sense of monotony. It was a nice chance to learn about some of the new mechanics relating to the different types of shields and armor and which skills are best against them. It turns out the Infiltrator's main fire-based combat skill melts armor. This also means that, unlike the first game, there's a very direct reason to balance out your squad.

It was definitely nice to see Garrus again and have him trading jokes with Shepard like old friends, and I imagine I'll have him accompany me on most of the next few missions.
