It's not. Believe me, I can draw a distinction. If not right away, then at least with the distance of time. I don't especially love Torna Battle, for instance, but I recognize that it's a good song.

The claim I'm making is simply that the uniqueness of a song is a completely separate variable from its quality. Some songs are one, some are both, some are neither. But the central voting trends have definitely been straying from "safe" songs to "interesting" songs. Just look at the contrast in our last two champions if you have any doubt of that.

your point is that people are aiming for "interesting and good" songs rather than "safe and good" songs. that's fair and I'd agree. It's certainly something I consider when considering nominating two songs I equally love. trdl's point is that people are aiming for "interesting" songs instead of "good" songs. it's being passive aggressive about songs someone doesn't like doing well
