I went more along the lines with a mix of world/characters/interactivity/invoking emotions compared to just pure story quality, for the most part, in regards to my list. To me, characters are pretty much inseparable from story. If I can't engage with the characters I can't engage with the story. But other things like atmosphere I intentionally didn't count. (e.g. I adore Transistor's atmosphere/aesthetic/world but I thought the actual plot was kinda weak, so I never seriously considered it for my list) --- another place and time, without a great divide, and we could be flying deadly high ...
