The thing is, outside of the rare cases where they plead guilty, cops are almost always found innocent in cases like this. They've already been fired, that's usually as far as that'll go.

And everybody knows that by now. They need a guilty sentence with appropriate punishment to make people satisfied.

And even if their actions were clearly caught on camera, they still deserve a trail. And that takes time.

I'm not saying this justifies the rampant looting though, because those are just asses taking advantage of the situation.
When normal citizens are suspected of murder, WITHOUT VIDEO EVIDENCE OF IT, they're usually arrested and held in custody.
They don't just chill at home until the judge says "guilty" in court.

And firing means nothing. Fired cops frequently get re-hired or just move to a different precinct and get jobs there.
