I'm only 25! And I do watch things myself. Like I said, my favorite movie is not even one that they both approved of (it's Aliens, though it does have a 97% on RT), and I can think of plenty of movies they both gave thumbs down to that I liked, and at least one they both gave thumbs up to that I didn't care for (Con Air).

We're not even talking about opinions on a specific work. We're talking about industry trends here. That's something I should be able to discern based on outside sources.

I never even said anything like all the "manly" action movies of the time were bad or anything. On the contrary, I'm a big fan of the likes of Die Hard, Predator, Aliens, Lethal Weapon 1 & 2, Robocop, and Terminator 1 & 2. I was more saying that based on the information I have, that kind of movie was practically everywhere at the time and those classics were far outnumbered by shlock, like how most movies are bad period. And I never said that other kinds of movies didn't exist back then. I was just saying that one of my biggest gripes with movies now is that too many big blockbusters are made for a "general" audience, thus causing the industry to feel homogenous, but then pondering whether things were really that much better in the '80s and '90s. Nowadays that kind of "manly" action movie is no longer as numerous - something like John Wick probably would not have stood out so much in the '80s. Heck, much of the acclaim Fury Road deservedly got (best movie of the past decade right there) was from being essentially an '80s action movie for the new millennium where stuff like The Expendables movies fell short.
