I always see the average American complain about SJW and political correctness and such but all people in charge of companies and such embrace it. I don't get it.

Here's more to the point: the three highest-grossing movies of 2017 domestically all had female leads (The Last Jedi, Beauty and the Beast, Wonder Woman), Black Panther outgrossed Infinity War domestically plus it and Captain Marvel were the highest-grossing non-team up movies of MCU Phase 3, Rise of Skywalker was the third highest-grossing movie of 2019 domestically but ninth worldwide, Solo for that matter made around the same amount of money domestically as Venom but performed like total crap overseas which is why it lost money, and then there's the sleeper success of films like Moonlight, Get Out, and Crazy Rich Asians. I think most moviegoing audiences in America either aren't aware of Hollywood's politics, or they flat-out agree with them, so pandering to anti-progressives would be an even worse idea than pandering to progressives.

If there's any problem, it's probably the idea of trying to make ANY movie sell to a "general" audience when the masses won't care for the property in question, like with Ghostbusters, Charlie's Angels, or Terminator vs. something like Star Wars, Jurassic Park, or The Fast and the Furious. To me, THIS is what's probably my #1 gripe with modern Hollywood - too many blockbuster movies try and appeal to the broadest audience possible and feel homogenous as a result. But then, I don't know if that's really that much worse than the glut of movies in the '80s and '90s made to appeal specifically to the adult male demographic.

The point still stands though. In the past, white men were the most profitable demographic, so they were pandered to. Now they are no longer the most, or at least not by as wide a margin, so they are not being pandered to as much. And somehow that's a bad thing? Maybe in practice, but in theory it should not be. The idea that it is somehow easier to make a good movie with a white male lead than otherwise is asinine to me, yet that's what so many anti-progressives imply with their rants. It should not be impossible to criticize these movies without saying something that can get you lumped in with actual bigots.
