Because the bare minimum of self-defense law is that you have to match the level of the threat.

The way she is dragging the thing and how she picks it up, it's weakly held.

In New York where there is no stand-your-ground law. Where self-defense laws, with weapons involved, is weaker than other states.

And I think NYC is a duty-to-flee place or whatever it is. Where self-defense is even weaker if you don't take the chance to leave a volatile situation like this.

And I'll repeat:
She was the aggressor.
He has the right to defend himself.
Women can abuse men.
Men have every right to defend themselves.
This specific situation, in the location they are in, based on the laws that govern that city makes me think he went above the legal definition of what would constitute self-defense there.
