lets say hypothetically 50% of the site has played SMB, and 30% has played SMG, also lets just assume all of the 30% that played SMG also played SMB

if all of the the people who played SMG preferred it to SMB, SMG wins despite the lower playrate

obviously thats not a realistic situation, but it illustrates the basic idea. The lesser played game will beat the higher played game if enough people who played both prefer the lesser played game.
