Topic	Jesus, how do people get into Civ

I played Civ 4 once like 10+ years ago and all I remember is having no idea what I was doing until my friend came over and murdered me with a even. The only reason I started Civ 6 was because another friend told me to get it so we could play together. I guess the biggest issue is I don't really know what to focus on early game. Like, how soon should I be settling new cities? What should my builders focus on early?
