Guacamelee is a perfect example for how not to design metroidvania games and ripped its content from other games with no creativity. 2D Souls-inspired games are far better than 3D Souls-inspired games, inculding Dark Souls. Code Vein > Dark Souls Soul Sacrifice Delta > Freedom Wars > Monster Hunter games Indie devs and Japanese devs consistently make far better games than most of what high budget developers have to offer.
