as i get to exploring, even the NPCs are making Vince more and more suspicious. one said he's collapsed before and that he's been different since winning the championship. possession? just plain evil? gimme something here. we go to the orphanage and the kids tell me to go down. i do and he is apparently RPG koolaid man, busting through walls and revealing an underground staircase.

Rab and Jade were the "thieves," alright. he didn't lock anyone in his room but he did lock people away in a hidden underground bunker and was responsible so close enough. Vince did it for strength. he sold everything, everyone, for strength.

...oh please, you're literally killing people for the orphanage? like i'm willing to believe this is some sort of redemption arc. fight doesn't take too long; between Erik dual wielding, me with Cutting Edge, Veronica with Fizzle, Rab and Sylv on support, it's easy. he can heal now too btw, 70 HP base for full party. first full party heal available.

Vince wants a 1 on 1 fight, no juice. he's pushing a hard "drugs are bad, mm'k?" message.

...he gets one shot. technically doesn't this mean drugs are fantastic since they made a complete scrub into a formidable fighter? like yeah it's costing him his life but what if you were actually already a good fighter, wouldn't the multiplier here prove incredible? yeah it may shave off years of your life down the road but if you can beat the demon lord it's all worth it.

Sylv says "it's back to where it all began," that's the ruins later on the bottom of this map, right? my original hometown? can do. anyway, this seems like plot thievery more so than bad thieves; they clearly know who i am and aren't trying to arrest me so this will be fine. i see a purple dot at the end, whoo new quests. this one wants me to get something at a waterfall and as i check the menu... an orphan's got a quest for me too? can do. i also check the fun sized forge and unlock Sizzly Puff. neat. with this and the 5 extra focus, i should be able to work on those 2 star equips now. current level: 24. orphan quest is... for an autograph of an NPC. "fun." fortunately there's no so many that would remotely match this description and once i make it up high i realize it's probably the weirdo in the corner.

first thing first, i kind of ignored the water in the map below but it's obvious there's a flying bug to get. and... yep, got. and there's a chest with a necklace. that's one.
