Cardfight Vanguard anime has always been mostly grounded until it wasn't. The first series is beloved by hardcore TCG fans for being a pretty accurate depiction of what it takes to become a good card player in any TCG, and every characters use meta builds for decks. But 2nd half of the first series and all of V-series have more of a fantasy vibe where it turns out the card games they're playing are actually happening in an alternate world where these monsters exist, which is why if the will of the player is strong enough, they get outcomes that are pretty wild within the card game. This isn't a huge reveal per se but they take this premise and put it at the center of all the plot. 1st series' 3rdish season is also essentially a zombie apocalypse spin-off lmao called Link Joker hen where characters do an Othello-esque personality turn whether or not they lose to people who are infected, but that season is actually considered the series peak because of tight writing and great characterization with great duels
