I'm not defending China, only speaking out against the ignorant and naive view that China - both the CCP and the citizens - is some exceptionally devious, dangerous, and cruel entity because they're not. I don't want people to like China or excuse any malfeasance. I simply want people - no matter who or where they are - to look at themselves with the same scrutiny. I want them to abandon these ideas (typically fueled by decades of propaganda) that Chinese are so "other" than us that hysterical outrage doesn't keep us from seeing our own dangerous flaws. --- ...
