And it doesnt seem any more dumb or hollow than any other attempt to reach out to their audiences, it just sticks out more given the shit show this particular subject always turns into. <_< Idk if you'd count it as it def wasn't marketed to children, but the Rocko movie had a prominent plot revolving around a trans character, and imo did it tastefully. I do admit though, they need to have a little more representation because it's still very few shows that feature an LGBTQ character.
