There's already precedence for a particular Assist Trophy being disabled under certain conditions. For example Alucard won't show up in Wii Fit Studio because it has a mirror in it. So, if all else fails, they can just disable the Spring Man Assist Trophy if someone selected Spring Man.

There's also precedence for just not caring that the same character shows up twice. While not quite the same, Chrom still shows up in Robin's Final Smash even if someone picked Chrom.

In regards to Spirits deconfirming characters, I feel like people got it backwards. I suspect what was going on was Spirits would not be made for characters that were in the game or planned to be in the game. So since the first batch of DLC characters were mostly known before development ended for the base game, they could avoid making Spirits for those characters. This won't extend to the second batch of DLC characters since they weren't known at the time (and the second batch might not have even been greenlighted yet). However this might mean that DLC Spirits might deconfirm characters from the second set. It just depends on when they decided on who would be in the second set of characters. At the very least, it's a bad sign if the character shows up as a Spirit from now on.
