Not really. Each character only had access to a handful of elements. Elize being the worst with dark only access iirc. Oh she has wind and earth via 1 arte each but given that she's a mage yeah not exactly useful/practical.

You can somewhat make up for it via the link system but that's not a good solution much like abyss altered artes system. And obviously it's completely useless when you don't have the character in the party or at all you need to access that link arte. And there are segments where this happens semi frequently.

Rowens definitely not a great mage compared to his predecessors. At most I used him during regular mob battles for tidal wave, shimmering toll and splash spam. And that was about it.
