Tales of Eternia Wrap-Up
I think I now comprehend what it means to place hope in someone else.

Even though Destiny still has Rutee hanging around and thus hasnt been eliminated yet, I think Eternia has the slightly stronger cast overall, which in turn earns it the distinction of being the best of the three games that make up what I think of as the early era of Tales. Like the other two, its held back to a certain extent by multiple party members being impermanent and underdeveloped, but that group holds superiority over the equivalent characters in the other games by being especially awesome in their limited time (well, two of them, anyway).

Three-quarters of the main cast are super solid, too, buoyed by Eternias increased willingness to take moments to step back from the plot and let their relationships with each other breathe a little bit. Its not often particularly thought-provoking or anything, but theyre well-written enough that its generally a pleasant experience to just watch them talk for a little while. We even finally get hints of the humor that would later come to be so prevalent in the series.

In short, Eternia is a good but unremarkable JRPG, and its cast suits that perfectly.

And they were never heard from again...
