One more for the late hour. Tomorrow is likely another skit day, but I also just might have to take a full day off because I'm not gonna be at my desk much at all. We'll see.

#45 - Judith (Vesperia)
Im afraid Im not very good at lying.

Judith is a character that I think everyone likes to at least some degree, but no one really cares about. Theres just not much to her, which makes her difficult to even discuss. She has a pleasant personality but not one thats particularly memorable. Shes important to the story in that shes the first to acknowledge the blastia issues that become integral to the plot later, but shes not actually relevant as an individual and she doesnt truly move the plot forward through her own actions most of the time. She fits well into the party dynamic but not in such a way that things would feel dramatically different if she werent around. Her story arc of the laser-focused, somewhat detached warrior on a solo mission to save the world finding a home with a group of people and learning of other ways to do things is satisfying but a little familiar.

Which, all in all, makes her just a simple, likable character who rests on the periphery of focus, and thats not always a bad thing. It makes her brief times in the spotlight feel more interesting. Shes the first to call out Estelle for dragging the party every which way for her fleeting whims, which kind of kickstarts her development, and the sisterly relationship she has with Rita by the end is a sweet one considering how it starts. Her best rapport, though, is with Yuri. They just seem to understand each other immediately upon their first meeting, and their casual banter is consistently well-written. Judith has a way of disarming people with her charm and Yuri feels a lot more grounded around her, which leads to some interesting insights into his thoughts at times.

I cant ever decide where I stand with her as a fighter. In the right hands, shes amazing, and she can certainly be fun when you get the hang of her, but it takes so much effort and time to develop her artes (not to mention her skills) to the point that they become enjoyable and smooth. Her design is interesting in that I would dislike it in a vacuum, but it suits her flirty demeanor and free-movement fighting style so well that Id actually count it as a point in her favor. Honestly, thinking about it, Judith is a good example of a character that does fanservice right - she comes off like an empowered woman who enjoys the reactions her looks and innuendos get instead of just someone whos in a skimpy outfit because its appealing on the box art. She has some of the best costumes in the series if its still not your thing, though, Into the Sky being a personal favorite of mine.

TL;DR: I never think about Judith much, but on every Vesperia run I end up enjoying her presence more than I remember. Shes just a solid character that fulfills her purpose well, but Id be lying if I said I didnt want a little more depth. It's sort of coincidence that she ends up so close to the absolute midpoint of the list, but it's a fitting spot for her.
