Recent history is that it's possible to find serviceable goaltending for really cheap. Hell, the reigning cup holders found it in the AHL. There is basically no market for high-priced goalies anymore. I was just thinking about this recently (beyond the Samsonov/Holtby dynamic) when commentators were mulling about the Avalanche possibly looking for a goalie if Grubauer's injury looks longer-term. Then Francouz goes out and lets in 2 goals in 3 games, and was a little over 2 minutes away from only 1 goal in 3 games. And those 3 games were in 4 days! Not like the 3 teams were world beaters or anything, but still. And now they extended him for 2 yrs/4 million which again, is pretty nice in the grand scheme of things, certainly nicer than 10 mill per. Which also brings us back to Columbus getting quality goaltending from Latvian no-names this year. The Binnington story will always be classic though... ... Copied to Clipboard! |
