158) The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC - Silver Will
Series rank: 2 of 2
https://youtu.be/E8x6NUuZR5I
Composer: Wataru Ishibashi, arranged by Yukihiro Jindo
Score: 6.5/10 (Good)
VGMC History: VGMC 4 (Lost R5 to Trombe!)
Favorite Part: https://youtu.be/E8x6NUuZR5I?t=194

Ah, yes, this is an improvement over the original Silver Will, for sure. It maintains much of the electronic sound of the original, but puts the main melody on violin (I think its an electric violin). Nice violin trio ideas with a lot of unified stuff throughout, but also a lot of non-unified things (call/responses, especially). It's got some very carefree lyrical stuff at the start, which I actually like more than the serious feeling for the rest of the track. Still, I like those percussive electronic sounds such as at 0:27hm, the way the notes change on the 4th eight note reminds me Gregory Edgeworths theme from Ace Attorney Investigations 2, actually! I LOVE GREGORYS THEME! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ry_4hnppAcc Okay, back to this music now They work nicely as a way to wind down the music at the end, as well as to introduce the main melody. Also, the pattern at 0:39 rocks! 1:07-1:09 has those nice subtle sounds in the background (plus a few other places like it). 3:14 ahhhhhh, such a wonderful chill contrast! Its easily my favorite part.

157) Steins;Gate - Skyclad Observer
https://youtu.be/f-v_GL5ADT8
Composer: Chiyomaru Shikura
Score: Great (6.510)
VGMC History: VGMC 7, VGMC 8, VGMC 10, VGMC 13 (Lost R5 to 1NF3S+@+!0N)
Favorite Part: The ends of the phrases

Here comes the first entrant from VGMC XIII! Yeah... if you compare my current rankings of that contest's retirees to what I posted last year, you will see they changed quite a bit. Crystar's Revenger is no longer at the bottom. Standard anime sound, here but I really like the marcato-style singing! Compositionally, not particularly great. There are some great moments, though. Those quick piano crescendos (technically impossible on actual piano...its an electronic effect), at 0:23 among other places.. The energetic way to end the phrase at 0:34-0:36, then again at like 1:28-1:30, . As it goes into perhaps the most popular section, I love how it adds an extra measure and then the vocalist decides to add a flat to the leading tone (1:00-1:02),! Very tasteful. In general, the sound effects and instruments are just kind of...there. Not annoying, but not impressive. The guitar solos for the most part are meh, the way it ends on the high note is sweet (1:48-1:52)! I love the switch to synth pads for a little bit after that, but unfortunately it only lasts for a little bit. And, hey, another piano crescendo at the end, with nice note choices to boot!

I think every contest has now been represented except for VGMC 2.
