I literally found him an apartment in the bay area (1 block from bart) for $1000 a month within 2 minutes. It's only 300sq feet mind you, but since min wage there is $15 an hour, you can easily afford it.

Most places where apartments are $900+ have min wages of $13+ at this point which means about $2200 a month take home, or less then 50% needed to rent an apartment, still totally doable.

Not as easy as it was 20 years ago, but doable.

You have to remember there more stuff, as well. Tax, Car, insurance, car insurance, food, car payment (if they have one), bills, etc...
