Theres no way to be sure, unless it happens. Boxing, for example, has had many decades where smaller weight classes such as middle weight and lightweight enjoyed a lot of popularity with fans, both hardcore and casual. My guess is that most people would gravitate to the divisions that feature the most powerful athletes, but they also appreciate ridiculous skill levels when they see it.
