In short, without explaining too much i've realized during the season, through training, games, and coaching, your players do get better or worse due to age, training facility level, coaches etc. Other teams players DO NOT as far as i can suspect. But they definitely get better or worse over time. So likely at the game update day in the offseason it all happens and they grow automatically at once, unlike the fluid of your team with attributes changing during the season, on day by day basis(Your players do not improve or decline all at once on one day, they have natural progression).

I'm playing in a league with 4 teams in it, and the whole point is to make it a fertile ground where bad players can get big(giving every player on all 4 teams max hidden mental attributes, 20 determination and natural fitness and training facilities). My teams players are slowly getting better, as you'd expect with 20 professionalism. The other teams players do not appear to be getting better or worse.

This explains why my team is doing so well, winning like 20 straight at the moment. not just because human brain > AI, my players are all factually better than every other player on the other teams(we all started with a CA of 1, PA 200) as a result of this. I know the other teams attributes will likely get better at the end of the season but this is disappointing to learn from a game i've loved like I do, unless my small sample size is somehow not the norm.

this was on FM18. No idea if 13 or 12(the only other two I own) are like this as well or anything else.
